Brian and Cindy's last day of the visit, so we went back to Uwharrie NF and rode some more. We then enjoyed the first camp fire of the year and pie iron calzones. Thanks again for driving down and hanging out Brian and Cindy, we had a blast!

Brian and I attacked Country Park and Owls Nest in Greensboro, then we all went visiting potteries. Brian and Cindy brought the fixings for Skyline Chili, so we ate well!

Brian and Cindy from NY are visiting for a few days, so we went riding in Uwharrie and then did the six mile hike on the Badin Lake Trail. PS Can anyone ID the snake I almost stepped on?

Another packed day. I finally washed and waxed the truck, and fixed my bed storage system. Sam and I then played "capture the flag" and went Geocaching. We found our treasure but the fish skeleton in the middle of the woods was cooler.

My first mountain race of the year is done! (not me in the picture) Race 3 of the Southern Classic Mountain Bike Series at San-Lee Park in Sanford. I hate the course, but at the last minute decided to race... I started toward the back, but quickly made my way to mid-pack in the first section of the woods. I rode away from those behind me, but never caught anyone... results are not posted but I know I was Top 10 (still mid pack, but it sounds better)

Another foggy morning and Clay and I paddled as far up Bear Creek as possible. The water was a little low, as you can see below the "0" mark???

I rebuilt the Taco storage system. This was Version 1.0 (I built it in 2008-ish) but went back and added drawers. Downside to this design is there is no where to stand a bike up, but I am hoping the drawers help with access when a bike is in there.

Late night job hunting.

Day 7 - The cows. I love the one looking down a hole (OK really scratching itself)

Day 6 - Want to waste a day? Install a hidden hitch on a brand new Prius, the hidden hitch mounts up under the body pan, but requires copy some of the "extra" body that Toyota puts in the way. Video is from 11am till 5:15pm

Day 6 - Oops, I cut up an old project to make drawers for my storage boxes. They worked great till I slide the box into position, there is a metal lip around the bed that prevents the opening. Worst part? I noticed it months ago when I decided to do this, I just forgot when I was working today.

Day 4 - As Calvin told Hobbes, "the days are packed" - Today started early helping Deb, a foggy ride with Sam to school, then I had to clay bar the camper and wax it after being covered for the winter. I then started to clean the boxes in the truck and wonder, what do you carry with you all the time? I finished with a spirited ride with the local club before picking up Sam.
I have:
Behind the seat: blanket, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, convertor, safety triangle, rain gear, owners manuals and jacks.
In the net in the cap: 2 Camp pillows, extra shirts, sun hats, sun shade, reusable shopping bags and clothes pins to dry cycling gear.
In the Boxes:
Box A: Kitchen - camp stove, pots, fuels bowls, plates, plastic silverware, big bowl, dish soap, paper towels, TP, energy bars, instant coffee, hot chocolate, sunscrean, bug repellant and 3 LED flashlights. (a lot of that was left over from cyclocross season for the family)
Box B: Long Stuff - Hiking pole, 2 umbrellas, PVC poles to hold open the glass when camping or the sun screen is on, a camp chair, tripod, sun screen canopy.
Box C - Often Used Tools - 2 sets of gloves, tool set, bike tools, cable and lock, Surfer Poncho (for changing in parking lots) extra ball cap
Box D - Other tools and misc. air compressor, flip flops, repair manual for truck, bike pump, jumper cables, tow strap, shackle, wood block needed for jack, rope, 2 qts of water and a mat to stand on when changing or washing off in the woods.

I know this seems like a ton of stuff, but I have used every piece of the gear at least once in the last 6 months.

Day 3 -
I decided to not bike today and cleaned the truck and trailer. Now I want to go camping. I hope this warm weather sticks around!

Day 2 of "Summer Break"
I drove over to Sanford and prerode a race course. I hated the course, I may not even race now. On the way home I stopped for my first kayak in the moving water.... well moving it was, I dropped in and tried to get up stream but a small waterfall turned me away, so I started down stream when I noticed two men drive up on mopeds and park near my truck... so I stayed close and just played. So neither "workout" went as planned, but it is still "summer."

March 12, 2012

First day home on "my summer break" - Started with a cavity filled, then home to finish cleaning the kayak, went for a bike ride, tested the kayak in the pond in front the house, fixed dinner and cleaned the kitchen. I could grow to love this.

TomTom decided we should drive home from Fairfax, VA on roads that didn't start with "I" so we ended up finding this... funny thing is the check out boy knew where the mother-ship is. I wonder how many people would get why this is a sad picture.

March 10, 2012

Still at the Northern Short Course. I had forgotten how tough doing the vendors was... very long days.

March 9, 2012

Seeing old friends and lots of great work at the 2012 Northern Short Course. PS also played with the Nikon D800 and D4 and the Canon 5d Mark III.
