This weekend we met friends from PA, MD and VA for a float on the Rappahannock River. At least we hoped for float and not drag or paddle too much. Notice the heavy use of Wiffle ball bats....
With this group, protection and aggression is the order of the day. The kayak went well, only a few accidental kayak sinkings, Sam and I got close in the tandem when we got hung up in a rapid and water was flowing over the boat. Deb took a decent fall and has a great bruise to show for it ; )

Kayaking at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte. I was a bad guy and left my wife and daughter alone and went to Charlotte to pre-ride a race course. I will say, the U.S. National Whitewater Center is a very cool place!

A fun filled day. We slept in and started the kayak trip a little late. After trying a small creek that was too low, we headed to Asheboro's Reese Lake for our first family outing in our kayaks. Then we met Clay and Kay for the Asheboro crit downtown and a playing Phase 10 till way to late! The photo of Daisy (the cat) is her watching 5 turkey vultures sitting n fence posts.

Test ride on Lake Tilley. I finally found a used second kayak cheap enough to buy, a Pamlico 135T Kayak by Wilderness Systems. I wanted a tandem so Sam and I or the whole family could get out. This is a heavy boat but with one seat in the middle it paddled great solo.

Another foggy morning and Clay and I paddled as far up Bear Creek as possible. The water was a little low, as you can see below the "0" mark???

Day 2 of "Summer Break"
I drove over to Sanford and prerode a race course. I hated the course, I may not even race now. On the way home I stopped for my first kayak in the moving water.... well moving it was, I dropped in and tried to get up stream but a small waterfall turned me away, so I started down stream when I noticed two men drive up on mopeds and park near my truck... so I stayed close and just played. So neither "workout" went as planned, but it is still "summer."

After searching for a couple of years, I finally found a cheap kayak. Of course some work is required to "un-redneck" it.
