My first carbon fiber handlebars. Sadly I couldn't fit them into the old quill stem without a faceplate, so my cyclocross pit bike has new hadlebars!

What a disappointing day. My first cyclocross race of the year was cancelled due to rain (what? 'cross is a fall sport?) so I drive over to Southern Pines for a 50 mile group ride, but first my bottom bracket was clicking badly, but more importantly, my knee is bothering me.... just in time for 'cross : (

A big day of mountain biking was cancelled by area wide thunderstorms... a quick call later and the Southern Pines road bike was a rain or shine ride.... it rained, hard!

A long fun filled day.
The Southern Pines group ride. We could call it the Tacoma group ride, we all drive the same truck ; )
Then the family headed to Durham for a Bulls vs the Rochester Red Wings game. Sam got an autograph from Rene Rivera. I could tell he was an older player so I looked him up and learned a new baseball term, unfortunately for Rene, it's not a good one. His major league stats are close to the Mendoza Line: that is an expression deriving from the name of shortstop Mario Mendoza, whose lifetime batting average is taken to define the threshold of incompetent hitting. Doh!
The ballpark (a newer one than the movie Bull Durham used, is very nice (Frontier Field is nicer) but sadly the game was rained out without a pitch, so much for 40% of rain.

When is a fall at 30mph a lucky fall? When you snapped your chain, flip over the handlebars and land on your back.... in a soft ditch. No injuries to me or the bike (other than the chain)

The old cross bike comes back out. Clay bought a chain checker and all my road bikes have worn out chains, so with the cost of cogsets, I will ride this till I get new chains.

A fun filled day. We slept in and started the kayak trip a little late. After trying a small creek that was too low, we headed to Asheboro's Reese Lake for our first family outing in our kayaks. Then we met Clay and Kay for the Asheboro crit downtown and a playing Phase 10 till way to late! The photo of Daisy (the cat) is her watching 5 turkey vultures sitting n fence posts.
