Brian and Cindy from NY are visiting for a few days, so we went riding in Uwharrie and then did the six mile hike on the Badin Lake Trail. PS Can anyone ID the snake I almost stepped on?
Well PJ, I wondered too, I couldn't get a great look at it's eyes, and on the tail I could see, I didn't see rattles, but I didn't get too close once I saw it!

Clay told me that it looks like a common brown water snake.
nothing common about seeing that snake so close to your feet! and where is the water?
I thought it looked like an eastern rattle snake. It has the same look with the way the scales form.
