New glasses. Sam has mentioned problems reading the board and computers at school. She tested only a .25 near sighted, which normally is not a prescription, but since she has mentioned it so many times, she got her first pair of glasses.

One of the things "Turtle" was missing was a battery tie down. The battery clamps were shot so I removed the battery box, cleaned everything up and installed new clamps and a homemade tie down.

My "friends" decided they needed to "salute" the ultimate expedition vehicle ever sold in the US (a 1993 Toyota FZJ80 Land Cruiser, named The Turtle by Sam)... and we even messed with the local children.

This weekend we met friends from PA, MD and VA for a float on the Rappahannock River. At least we hoped for float and not drag or paddle too much. Notice the heavy use of Wiffle ball bats....
With this group, protection and aggression is the order of the day. The kayak went well, only a few accidental kayak sinkings, Sam and I got close in the tandem when we got hung up in a rapid and water was flowing over the boat. Deb took a decent fall and has a great bruise to show for it ; )

The Turtle gets base-lined.
All fluids (coolant, oil, AT trans, F&R Dif, transfer) and a new oil pump seal

Not quite right. I received the wrong window motor.... It was a long day, 50 mile ride, sunroof leak repair and then this problem.
Sept. 8, 2012
Thanks to Clay, we fixed the speakers grounded out and cutting off. It was 5 hours, soldered the connections, glued cereal boxes to the door panels to support them, and worked through a thunderstorm.

The 50th alumni show is hung. My BioCommunications Photojournalism class hung the show as a lab. My boloney steak, cheese and chili sandwich.
Sept. 3, 2012
A new horse in the stable. On the way home I stopped to look at another (really not on the way, more out of the way, but is OK) and this followed me home. 1993 Land Cruiser with 166,000 miles, front and rear lockers, no major dents, almost everything works. I am very happy!

Should I buy this?
1994 FZJ80 with 248k miles for $1500
The good: Drives, stops straight, all electrical stuff works, new starter and radiator. I have the truck for the night, first tank (only ran a 1/4 tank) was 14.7 MPG (That is only 1 MPG worse than my Taco)

The Bad:
Check engine and ABS light on (code 21 O2 sensor)
Damage to both bumpers, sunroof cracked, door handle broke (you have to find that small piece to pull up on) carpet and seats trashed. The clear coat is pealed, etc.
Aug. 30, 2012 (bonus)
When we started tonight's cyclocross practice, Clay brought out an old radio for tunes as we got dressed. An hour this guy had built a whole web from the antenna to the truck... fast worker.
