A fleet of Niner Jet RDO carbon bikes. Niner hosted a demo day in Greensboro, so I had to ride a ~$4k bike in the woods-

Scenes from the road. at 4:55am my wife calls me (waking me up) and once I was up, I was up, 15 minutes later I was on the road. 11 hours later I pulled into my driveway. At least I have to work on Memorial Day to recover ; )

Home and free, the hospital band is off. Steph had an emergency appendectomy on Sunday, the appendix was gangrenous so she has several meds, and needs lots of sleep. She will be out of work for 4 weeks... I guess lots of time for Shamoo.

As you can tell, we made a quick trip to the mountains, it was supposed to be cycling, hiking, eating, but I missed the weather and it was COLD, we didn't have enough sleeping bag and I didn't bring warm enough cycling gear. We did a short ride on the Linn Cove Viaduct and spent the rest of the time enjoying the company of The Clarks, eating around the fire and hiking. Above is a "water fall" at the Rough Ridge Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's not listed in my waterfall book, so it must be a slide?

Cascades Waterfall at E.B. Jeffress Park BRP milepost 272 - worth the easy hike!
A pink Lady Slipper, I think a pretty rare flower.
Pink Lady's Slipper is an interesting wildflower in the Orchid Family. They are endangered in some areas because they take a long time to grow, and because people collect them.
This plant has only two leaves. They are green and branch out from the center of the plant. A single flower stalk also grows from the center.
The deep pink flower, which many people say looks like a slipper, grows about three inches long. Unlike most flowers you see, this flower is closed tightly except for a small opening in the front.
Pink Lady's Slippers grow in shady forests under pine trees, oaks, Red Maple, and Sweetgum. Some other plants that grow alongside them include Greenbrier and Sassafras.
The travelers!
Just for Deb, a rear view mirror photo.

Boone Fork Falls is located on the Boone Fork Trail on the Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 296.4 at Julian Price Park Picnic Area. The falls are not the typical falls but instead rush and fall over car-sized boulders. Lots of jumping from rock to rock to climb the falls. Sam even found a squeeze to slide through...
May 17, 2014 Time Lapse
A time lapse of a short ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The start is a 49 minute climb, followed by the 21 minute descent back to the campground.

Sam belts out "Baggage Claim" during the SWRMS Talent Show. I give her (and all of them) a ton of credit, the guts to stand up and perform!

These pictures are for a forum report if this works. A couple of years ago, my Salsa Dos Niner broke and Salsa gave me nothing, despite it was the weld that broke. After trying several times, turns out, you can not re-weld Scandium and before I trashed the frame, I should try one more thing.
I shaped a piece of aluminum to fit inside the chain stay
Drill and tapped the piece for M6 screws, one from the side through the drain hole and one from the back in a new hole I drilled.
Here is a better view of the hole location.
Screws used.
I tightened it up and used a little JB weld to hold in place, next week, I will build it up enough to ride in the yard and see if feels solid.

Tennis is already costing me money... I broke a string last night and had to have my 1993 racquet restrung. I think it cost more than the racquet is worth now.

Ready for spring. Once or twice a year, I try to wax and clean the Tacoma, not bad for 210,000 miles.

That was fun. I joined a tennis league and played my first sets since 2006/8? Whenever Robert C. Owens and I last hit at WCHS. Before those sets it was 1993 when I won a tournament in Florence, SC - I am sore now.

The sign seems VERY accurate! Race to the River in Harbison State Forest and the 2nd race in the SC State Championship.
My total points in the two races was enough for the Gold Medal - 2014 South Carolina Mountain Bike Clydesdale State Champion.
