A sad day. We hated to see the trailer go, but the new owners are super excited and even better people.

How I felt today, in Purgatory....
The hike is short and I did the Moonshine Run trail too. Misty rain the whole way, but felt good
to be out.
More capacity than needed.....

Snow again....
Together.... using nothing but parts from my used parts box, the Trek 930 I bought in 1994 is back on the road. As Jeremy Clarkson said on Top Gear, "I am genuinely pleased with it."
Lots of mixing to make it work. All I had was a tapered square bottom bracket so I had to use an old Ultegra 600 crank, the gearing is too tall for real mountain biking, but bombing around is fun. Set up as 1x9.
I even got to use the Coda brakes that a former riding partner gave me in 1995. I must say, cantilever brakes still suck. I might take the V brakes from Deb's bike and give her the crappy brakes... she will never notice....

Enjoying the sunshine. The tennis center director said Sam looks like an advanced beginner... hopefully I can get her to do group lessons!

After I sold my Haro CX bike, I have missed having a "camp" bike, something cheap, that I can ride wherever, whenever. Since I am off work, I pulled my 1994 Trek 930 mountain bike out from the shed... rust had taken hold, so I sanded till I got bored (read not prefect) and painted it with leftover paint from my old Land Cruiser paint job.

Remember last week's race? Well, this is the damage, brake pads, chain, new caliper and then as I started working, I found I needed brake cables and my bottom bracket is seized. No more muddy races for me!

Rain, sleet, snow. Long drive home.
We took the Land Cruiser from NC to Rhode Island on Wednesday, and back today. Today in 13 hours of driving home, I saw 0 (none) 80 series Land Cruisers, I did see 2 MB G Wagons, a Land Rover 90 Defender, a Porsche 911 (and an older 911 on a truck transport), a VW Vanagon and the Oscar Meyer Wiener mobile - so I learned that my Cruiser is rarer than all those ????

A classic New England diner for breakfast in Warwick, RI and a southern girl forgets were she woke up ; )

Tappen Zee Bridge and a roast beef sandwich from my favorite sub place in the world. D'Angelos! I think we drove an hour out the way on a 14.5 hour drive to find it....

Disappointing day racing in the Virginia State Championships. The course had a couple of inches of snow and was SUPER muddy. I was battling to keep with second place the whole first lap, despite losing almost all braking since the mud ate my pads, I was feeling like I could pass second. As I started the climb on lap 2, my chain went in big chain ring/big cog combo and locked (chain was too short) I messed with it for 10 minutes and DNFed - I had to use a chain tool to break the chain, it was under so much pressure, it sent parts flying.... in the end it might have been a blessing, I might have hurt myself without brakes... I had already bounced off a tree or two on lap 1. Congrats to all the finishers today in the Southern Classic Mountain Bike Series !

This chore sucked. Digging out over a 1/4 mile of drainage ditch... the rain caused erosion along the driveway. Each pile of debris that had to be shoveled and raked out the ditch had a patient 0 - a stick/log that started the pile.... country living is not all fun and games.

Ice storm. 1/2 inch of freezing rain/ice. Huge mess... one of my FB friends said they had been through hurricanes with less rain and I believe it!

I wanted a simple (cheap) everyday carry knife. I love my Benchmade, but always fear I am going to lose it. Will the third one a charm?

The first race of the Southern Classic Mountain Bike Series was "The Knot" held at the Poinsett State Park near Sumter, SC. The race feature 90%+ single track and lots of new trail (read soft) and a lot more climbing than I expected. I raced Clydesdale, and right from the gun three of us were off the front. First place (Josh) was gone, after 1-2 miles, I never saw him again, second place (Piggly Wiggly - if you race Clydesdale, is racing for Piggly Wiggly a good idea?) and me were riding together for the first half of the first lap. Piggly Wiggly crashed when we caught a back marker from an earlier wave and I got around him and tried to create a large enough gap so he would forget about me... it worked and I settled back into a rhythm through the first lap, 10.5 miles. This is my first race at Cat 2 distance and the second lap was going to be long. I caught a few riders, crashed, and found off quad cramps to keep my second place finish. 21 miles is an interesting distance to race MTB, shorter XC you red line the whole race, and the 12 hour and 100 mile races I have done are just ride along to finish. This hurt, but in a different way - "can I go faster? will I bonk if I do?" the whole race.... PS the park is very pretty and the trails are a lot of fun to ride!
