Disappointing day racing in the Virginia State Championships. The course had a couple of inches of snow and was SUPER muddy. I was battling to keep with second place the whole first lap, despite losing almost all braking since the mud ate my pads, I was feeling like I could pass second. As I started the climb on lap 2, my chain went in big chain ring/big cog combo and locked (chain was too short) I messed with it for 10 minutes and DNFed - I had to use a chain tool to break the chain, it was under so much pressure, it sent parts flying.... in the end it might have been a blessing, I might have hurt myself without brakes... I had already bounced off a tree or two on lap 1. Congrats to all the finishers today in the Southern Classic Mountain Bike Series !
