A morning of sightseeing. I started on my bike very early and rode all over the historic district and mansion row before heading over the big bridge and a loop around Patriots Point and the USS Yorktown, then we headed to Angel Tree only to find the park closed.

What a great day. We woke up to a cool and foggy morning in West Virginia and by that night, I was circling the velodrome in Rock Hill, SC.  Wow! is all I can say about riding a 30 foot wall banked at 41.5 degrees on a fixed gear bike! After my next lesson and 3 hours of riding I will be certified to race on a velodrome : O

Today was a slow day, all morning was spent at camp and after lunch we visited Falls of Hills Creek and it's  three waterfalls that cascade 25, 45, and finally 63-feet, the second highest waterfall in West Virginia.  After the hike we played games of ultimate Frisbee and ladder ball.

Aug. 3, 2013 - Swimming

As long as we are at the Greenbrier River, we might as well swim and swing. Sam lets go a little early and me and Cam swinging out.

Aug. 3, 2013 - Hikes, tunnels and dinner.

Today was a hike up to Ann Bailey Observation Tower, an old hand cut railroad tunnel on the Greenbrier Trail before a pot luck dinner with friends.

Aug. 2, 2013 - The Cave

After the train ride, we headed toward a cave on private property.

As you can see, the opening is about as wide as you are and a 10 foot drop to the floor. Once down, you had to press your back against the wall and your feet across from that wall to crab over a deep crevasse, and that was the first 15 feet. Lots of scrambling and sliding (new respect of denim stickiness)  led to open rooms and passages in every direction!

Aug. 2, 2013 - Cass, WV

Cass Railroad and saw mill. The train was a 1900's Shay locomotive, a gear driven engine.

It was time to visit Monongahela National Forest with friends again. This year we camped at the Laurel Run Primitive campground in the southern part of Monongahela. Best part of the campground (other than being alone) was seeing a Bobcat!
