Carnies....

July 11, 2010

Clean up day. Wash and clean the inside and out of the truck and trailer (doesn't everyone remove the seats to vacuum?) Wash sleeping bags, dry tents, and extra maintenance on the Taco (rotate tires, oil change, new front brake pads)

Driving home. In the two weeks we:
Drove 3,639 miles.
Averaged 13.319 MPG (hauling a trailer the whole time, but dismal)
Spent $1,004.43 for petrol, this was hurt by the $4 gallons in Canada

But it was worth it!

Last night campsite, last lobster dinner, and a visit to the Louisbourg Fortress and lighthouse.

July 7, 2010

Cool side trip to White Point, and had the chance to talk to a lobster fishing couple on the way out. Another classic Nova Scotia landmark, Lick-A-Chick....

Into Meat Cove, the picture of the truck is our campsite. Clay has taken to photographing everything, including flowers. After lunch, the fog and cold was too much so we took off on a 3 hour round trip hike to the northern light, we read it as light house, we were wrong. The "new" light is behind the old remains. The hike was saved by bear and moose tracks and poop on the whole trail!

Kidston Island Lighthouse, the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and another waterfall. These photos took a painful turn when I fell over on a slick boulder while climbing the waterfall.

A busy day! We started towards Meat Cove and stopped in Inverness for laundry, gas, groceries and lunch at a hamburger stand right on the beach (for Bob, I had the Beach Burger) After lunch we went for the Egypt Falls, listed as one of the prettiest on Cape Benton, but requires ropes to get down to. We did it anyway! After the hike, we tried an off-road short cut that ended with a marsh, unhooking the trailer, a machete and lots of sweat to turn around. We didn't make Meat Cove, but instead found a wonderful campground, MacLeod CG in Dunvegan, the sky, sunset and beach was so nice, we decided to spend two days here.

The goal was to get to Peggy's Cove for the sunrise over the most photographed lighthouse. We left our campsite at 5am and still missed the rise, but had great light anyway. We stopped for a swim in the Atlantic, it was cold! Notice Sam shooting with my Canon G7 and in my way ; )

July 2, 2010

An off day of sorts. A late-ish start, transitioned to the other coast, a quick run through Lunenburg and a bike ride with Sam

July 1, 2010

Happy Canada Day.
Brier Island for a whale watch, including a a spyhop, where it sticks it's head out of the water to look at us. And a couple of lighthouses.

June 30, 2010

Drive day to Digby. We had great fresh, off the boat scallops and made the lighthouse for sunset.

June 29, 2010

Five Islands and Cape d'Or Lighthouses.
Tidal Bore time lapse:

June 28, 2010

The Fundy Bay Tidal Bore raft ride. It was pouring rain, so why not go rafting, we are going to get soaked anyway.... we did.
Video.
