My father-in-law sent me a great link to macro photography. I don't own the extension tubes, etc, but it is fun playing with what I own!

Busy day (shown by the cats) Felix hunts down a chipmunk (I would have rescued it, but it already had lost use of the rear legs) I spent most of the day cutting in the final trails on my land and Spitz runs up a new stretch, and Jenny checks out the new fire ring (which reminded me of Simon's Cat and "The Box" - http://www.simonscat.com/Films/ )

Day of circles.
A spider web on the porch and my bike chain in a mini crock pot filled with paraffin wax.

I stopped by and helped JD install a body lift to his restored 4Runner before he has his sliders and bumpers install. I have to say, working on a truck on a lift is much nicer than in a gravel driveway on shaky jacks.

Busy day results.
Sam's new (to us) Craigslist basketball goal and the camping trailer cleaned and ready!

Damage fixed, the hood with it's Plastic Dip blackout (that is a "trick" to help with glare on the hood, in my case to cover bad clear coat) I am also refinishing the butchers block counter and had to come up with a cat barrier. Sadly our Simpsons collector plate somehow fell and shattered, Sam and I were in teh basement, her first words...."good thing I am down here with you or else you would blame me."

Time for some Land Cruiser love. After a certain spouse backed it into a tree it was time to fix that damage and while I am at it, fix the peeling clear coat on the hood.

Great day, bad pictures. I met Brian Thorpe and Marc Hall in Raleigh for a ride. Both are former Fayetteville Observer photographers and it was great catching up. At least I saw a cool 40 on the way home.

Everyone in the south knows what time it is! Pollen Season, no need to wash cars for teh next few weeks.

The painful part of moving. Organizing after "moving in." This is the "sub" basement, a catch all of outdoor gear. 8 hours later it is organized and cleaned.

Sam and I spent the day in Morrow Mountain State Park, kayaking, fishing and just putting around. We kayaked out to an island and had lunch and fished, we explored more on the kayak, fished the shore, etc. till dinner. On the way home we passed this sign in Troy, NC The odd thing was my mom, sister and I watched a show on Department Stores and their Christmas events in Detroit in the 40s and 50s. Mom told us how Belks when she grew up was Xxxxx-Belk. That is why I stopped for the sign, after some research, the Belk story is interesting and odd, many of it's stores were different partnerships including Hudson-Belk (the one my mom remembers I think) and I guess this one too.
This was the store the show was on:

Sam and I woke up to light snow flakes and hit the trail, we did the Hanging Rock trail and then headed over to the Upper Cascade Waterfall, as we were finishing up, the light snow flakes turned to sleet, so hit the trail, had lunch and headed home! A great birthday.

For my birthday, Sam and I went camping for the evening. We went to Hanging Rock State Park, after our quick Easter visit, there were a few trails we (OK, I) wanted to hike. We got a late start, so we only had time for Moore's Wall Loop Trail to Balanced Rock and the tower on Moore's Knob.

Sam's picture of me at the start.
A set of balanced rocks.
Sam is becoming more adventurist, she wanted to see if she could make it out to the rocks above.
Sam swears she has not cooked hot dogs over a fire before.

chain suck? I have been fighting chain suck in the small chain ring, I checked chain length using Sheldon Brown's method, and lubed the chain well, still not fixed. I guess it is a worn chain ring.

Packing up and saying good-bye. The teardrop called, Crows Wing, is readied for the road. A great weekend with friends, wine, food, hikes, and laughing. A much needed break after moving, etc!

Hidden Falls. Hanging Rock State Park.
Pilot Mountain is fogged in.
Window Falls. Hanging Rock State Park.
We decided to entertain our guests, James and Elizabeth, with a couple of hikes. A foggy trip around Pilot Mountain and a warmer look at waterfalls in Hanging Rock State Park.
