Our last night and we got a good show!
March 18, 2013
So today was interesting, we rented a car to tour the area, driving an ice road, visiting the Snow King's castle, eating the worst fish ever.... but most importantly, we were shut out from the Northern Lights last night. 4.5 hours and not a peep of aurora.

You must be tired of Northern Lights pictures by now, so here is my day. I started with a 6 kilometer hike (rabbit tracks) out to an overlook (I posted a cool 360 degree view on Facebook or try http://360.io/4qyBpW ) and did a self portrait, notice the ice forming on my eye brows and eye lashes. I then got to lead a dog sled time across a frozen lake (really, not much leading, the dogs had it under control) and then watched an Aboriginal fisherman pull his net from under Blachford Lake.

Last nights show was very fast moving and bright, even getting close to 1 second exposures, the action of the ribbons could not be stopped. A lot of red and purple was visible. The top photo makes me think of Scooby Doo.
March 15, 2013 Time Lapse
The time lapse from last night. The Northern Lights from Blachford Lake Lodge near Yellowknife NWT.

Another great night of Northern Lights. We flew to Blachford Lake Lodge and the lights came out right at dusk, so I had the chance to get a great blue sky and the moon. I have a time lapse to post but doubt the bandwidth from here will post it, so check back on Monday....

One of the forums I frequent always asks, where did your Land Cruiser take you this weekend? This week-end was more moving.

We decided to bring the cats over today. They were not happy, but the kitten adjusted quickly, the rest not so much.
