My first "real" mtn bike race of the year. This is the start, up the soap box derby hill. It was held at a cool park in Winston-Salem, the trail was fun and the park also had a runway for remote controlled planes and a track for remote controlled cars. My race went as expected, maybe even better since I had never ridden the course, so over half the lap was at race speed on an unknown course.

Early this morning I moved into my new home, no more tent for me. This is my driveway (the fields are normally filled with cows) my living room and master bedroom.

Tim, Kevin, Andy and I joked, we only remember and talk about the epic races... this one was epic. The start was when I realized I brought one mtn bike shoe and one road shoe (both right feet) so I decided to try the 30 miles in a sneaker on the left, an inch of rain and complete brake failure in the middle of the course just added to the suck factor.

A major time suck... wrong bearings and still not happy with the adjustment. (post note, it did make it to NC)

Who would have thought in 1989 I would one day have to wear this outfit again (and the same one, I guess I am a pack rat)

Three guys from Farmer. Last night because of the the threat of thunderstorms and the fact I was leaving the campground in the morning, I packed up the trailer and set up the truck for sleeping. Through the whole process, I could here music from across the camp ground. Once I finished, I walked over and listened as a guitar, harmonica and stand up bass played a set... a mix a rock-a-billy, mountain bluegrass and something... fun stuff.

Damn youtube... I was looking for coverage of the Giro and the sad news of the day, Leopard-Trek rider Wouter Weylandt (BEL), 26, was killed on a descent in stage 3. According to a Radio Shack rider behind him, it seems this was not the course's fault. Woutner was looking back and waiting for a group when he clipped his pedal or bars on a stone wall. Sad day.

Today was Chris' funeral and a gathering of friends to remember him. Between the two I went for a ride on the trails on Ft. Bragg... I am guessing they meant most difficult before the tornado wrapped steel around the trees : P
