OK, this part of camping sucks. After getting some rain almost every day, including lots of thunderstorms... everything needed to be dried/cleaned/put away.
A day of fun. Steph enjoyed primitive camping in the woods (she did do this before, but it was on the beach and she was a lot younger) we played around in the waterfall, drive up and down searching for a fire tower that isn't on the map and then drove home.
Another drive day. Time to escape the heat (and rain) of TN and back to the Monongahela National Forest, this time to one of my favorite primitive sites.
Bristol, TN What a great camp ground for a race, alcohol free, so no loud, rude folks and not crowded... I wonder if that is related ; ) Started the day at Bristol Caverns, then on to get out Kyle Busch swag, and then race time. Busch wins again!
Left WV over this, the New River Bridge, the world's longest single-arch steel span and at 876' feet tall is the second tallest in the US. We arrived in Bristol in time to set up camp, and get to the Nationwide race. Kyle Busch won.
A long day... just drove to WV and picked this camp site, it's a dead end forest service road off the Tea Creek in Monongahela National Forest. No people and no bears.
After our trip to Canada and the off-the-track driving in WV, I realized how important GPS is to me, so I got a cheap (used) netbook and built a mount, so hopefully I will have 1:24,000 scale topo maps and GPS working soon. I also added a rear view camera to the trailer and 12 volt fans to cool the sleeping area of the truck. All this is removable in 5 minutes, so it will be trip stuff mainly!
Dab, Sam and I went to the Red Wings game. As we arrived Elvis (not the fat Hawaii one) left, I mean, came in with us. Great sunset, but I loved the one streak of orange!
Shooting the meteor shower (yes I know that is a jet) Sam and I saw almost a dozen, including what may have been the best I have seen, huge tail and colorful. (no the camera didn't capture anything tonight)
Cinders plays. Funny cat, we have had her 2 weeks and she has lost almost half her weight. She is now down to less than a pound, but the vet says she is doing well????
