This was not the reason for the bargain, but the house we looked at is right in the eastbound lane of a planned US Hwy 64 bypass around Asheboro.... oops! (Odd the realtor didn't know, I had to find it)

July 28, 2012

Graduation recognition at RCC and I was keyed, my photojournalism students "broke" into my office and zipped tied keys (almost a hundred?) to anything and everything that had a hole.... congrats to Alyssa, Brandi, Maria and Anna!

Still hunting for a foreclosure bargain.

Not a prodigy ; )

July 21, 2012

A long fun filled day. The Southern Pines group ride. We could call it the Tacoma group ride, we all drive the same truck ; ) Then the family headed to Durham for a Bulls vs the Rochester Red Wings game. Sam got an autograph from Rene Rivera. I could tell he was an older player so I looked him up and learned a new baseball term, unfortunately for Rene, it's not a good one. His major league stats are close to the Mendoza Line: that is an expression deriving from the name of shortstop Mario Mendoza, whose lifetime batting average is taken to define the threshold of incompetent hitting. Doh! The ballpark (a newer one than the movie Bull Durham used, is very nice (Frontier Field is nicer) but sadly the game was rained out without a pitch, so much for 40% of rain.

The Taco turned 190k miles this week, so it was time for a little love. Flushed the radiator, used 10 gallons of distilled water and Toyota's really proud red coolant. New air and fuel filter, AT flush and charged the AC.

July 19, 2012

Quiz day. 5 stations, 90 seconds each. Ambient exposure, bounce flash to match ambient exposure, bounce flash to under expose ambient exposure by 2 stops, custom white balance and Pocket Wizard set-up.

A muddy third place. Great race in the Greensboro Battle of The Bikes.

July 14, 2012

When is a fall at 30mph a lucky fall? When you snapped your chain, flip over the handlebars and land on your back.... in a soft ditch. No injuries to me or the bike (other than the chain)

July 13, 2012

Ode to Kathrine Clark. Seen on the ride today.

July 12, 2012

A Hudepohl and the Tour de France. A great night.

July 11, 2012

The old cross bike comes back out. Clay bought a chain checker and all my road bikes have worn out chains, so with the cost of cogsets, I will ride this till I get new chains.

July 10, 2012

RCC photojournalism grad and Greensboro newspaper photographer had his opening reception for 25 photos for 25 years at the Randolph Arts Guild. It was a great show and a fun evening, including which chicken photo was better, the one hanging (Jerry's choice) or his bosses (on right) which Jerry framed for his boss, but didn't hang it ; )

July 9, 2012

We are home, unpacked, cleaned up and ready to roll again before the rain hit.

July 8, 2012

A Luna Moth, rafting under a low bridge and go-cart racing in Boone.

July 7, 2012

Riding over the Lin Cove Viaduct and the hike to Upper Creek Falls. We used the Moon North Carolina Handbook to find lunch, Famous Louise's Rockhouse Restaurant, homemade pimento cheese and the dinning room is split at the three county lines on which it sits.

July 6, 2012

Our campsite for the weekend. Back to the mountains to escape the heat.

July 5, 2012

More bike lab: panning and front and rear curtain flash.

July 4, 2012

No local fireworks and everyone has to work on the 5th, so sparklers have to do this 4th.

July 3, 2012

A student rides during my lab. Photography school is so much more fun than _______.

July 2, 2012

Sam rides so I can teat my lab assignment for the week.

July 1, 2012

Spitz watches as Sam runs hill repeats on the driveway.

June 30, 2012 MacCrae Peak

Sam and I decided to hike to MacCrae Peak, the guide said for experienced hikers. It did not lie, this was the most technical hike I have done other than top roping and ice climbing. There were several spots that REQUIRED the use of the ropes to pull yourself up and the ladders (half dozen or so) were an extra amount of fun ; )

June 30, 2012 MacCrae Peak - part 2

I am very proud of Sam, she was nervous about the ladders (going up and down) and some of the ledges with long falls, but she never paused or whined. The teenagers are a group we kept leap frogging. It took Sam and me 2.5 hours to travel about 2.5 miles.

Grandfather Mountain, and it's mile high swinging bridge (1 mile above sea level)
